Up on the Ridge, Down by the Lake
Trinity is a town of about 2,500 just west of Decatur, and tree service in Trinity depends a lot on which part of town you live in. The southern part sits on Trinity Mountain, a broad ridge several hundred feet above the land around it. The north side slopes toward US 72 and Wheeler Lake. Pro Tree Service Huntsville works in both.
Why people built on the ridge
Settlers came in the 1810s, and plantation owners built homes on Trinity Mountain to get away from the mosquito-ridden lowlands. A post office opened in 1848, closed in 1853 and reopened as Trinity Station in 1866. The town incorporated in 1901 and dropped "Station" from its name two years later. Population was 2,095 in 2010 and 2,526 in 2020, an increase of about 21%.
On the mountain
Ridge-top lots catch more wind than the valley below, and soil on top is often thinner and rockier. That combination produces a few typical problems: 1. Trees with root systems that spread wide but not deep, which can tip in saturated soil. 2. More wind-thrown and broken trees after storms. 3. Difficult access on slopes, where wood often has to be lowered and carried rather than dropped.
On a ridge, regular deadwood removal and reducing very long or heavy limbs pay off more than in a sheltered valley.
Toward the lake
The north side of town is lower and wetter, with deeper soil. Trees there grow faster and larger, but low ground also stays soft for weeks in the wet season, from roughly November through May. Heavy trucks can leave deep ruts, so we schedule those jobs for drier weather where possible.
Roads and lines
US 72 runs along the north side of town and State Route 24 along the south, with the town limits reaching slightly past both. Trees along these roads often grow into overhead lines. If a tree is touching a line, call the electric provider on your bill before anyone works on it.
Pines on the ridge
Pines are common on the ridges west of Decatur. Healthy pines handle wind fairly well, but stressed or damaged ones attract bark beetles. The southern pine beetle prefers stressed loblolly and shortleaf pines, especially those hurt by storms or heavy winds. Signs include small popcorn-like lumps of resin on the bark and needles that turn yellow, then red-brown, over a few weeks. Once a pine has died, it dries out and becomes brittle, and it can break unpredictably in the next storm.
If you see a pine fading on your property, call early. Removing an infested tree promptly can help protect healthy pines nearby.

Trinity Questions
Why do trees on Trinity Mountain blow over more than in town below?
Ridge tops are more exposed to wind and often have thinner, rockier soil, so roots spread wide but shallow. In saturated soil, those trees tip more easily.
Can you work on a steep lot?
Yes. On slopes we usually take trees down in sections and lower the wood, then carry it out, rather than felling the whole tree.
Do you cover Decatur and the area along US 72?
Yes. We work in Trinity, Decatur and along US 72 west toward the Lawrence County line.
How do I know if my pine has bark beetles?
Look for small lumps of white or yellow resin on the bark and needles that fade from green to yellow to red-brown. Fine sawdust in bark crevices is another sign.
Is there a tree company near me in Trinity that will come out for a single tree?
Yes. We are happy to look at one tree, whether it is a dead pine on the ridge or a limb over the roof by the lake. Call (938) 666-8748 or send a photo with the form, and we will set up a free on-site estimate and give you a written price before any work is scheduled.
What happens to the wood after a removal?
You choose. We can chip brush and haul everything, cut logs to firewood length and stack them, or leave larger rounds for you. The estimate lists whichever option you pick.
