Tree Service at the Top of Alabama

Ardmore sits right on the Tennessee line in northeastern Limestone County, and its Main Street is the border: one side of the road is Alabama, the other is Ardmore, Tennessee. Tree service in Ardmore, Alabama is a small-town job with a few unusual wrinkles, and Pro Tree Service Huntsville serves the Alabama side and the rural roads around it.

A railroad town renamed

The settlement was first called Austin, after Alex Austin, who picked the spot for a Louisville and Nashville Railroad station. The railroad renamed it Ardmore after Ardmore, Pennsylvania. The town appeared as an incorporated town in the 1930 census. It had 1,194 residents in 2010 and 1,321 in 2020, on about two square miles. At 912 feet, it is higher than Huntsville or Athens, and Wikipedia describes it as the northernmost settlement in Alabama.

Two states, one street

Because the town straddles the border, it matters which side a tree is on. Local rules, trash services and utility providers can differ across the line. If a tree on the Alabama side hangs over a Tennessee property, both owners should agree before work starts. We will mark where the work stops on the written estimate.

Weather on higher ground

The north end of Limestone County is a little higher and more open than the river lowlands. Spring storms crossing the Tennessee Valley often move through here on their way north and east. Trees standing alone in yards and fields take the brunt of that wind. When ice or wet snow does come, broadleaf evergreens and fast-growing ornamentals are the first to break.

What we commonly do here

Clearance work. Older lots near Main Street and Ardmore Avenue (State Route 53) have mature trees close to roofs, porches and service lines.

Field-edge trees. Rural homesites often include fencerow trees that have never been pruned and carry dead limbs.

Removals after storms. Split trunks, uprooted trees and hangers caught in other trees need careful, staged removal.

Stump grinding. Once a tree is gone, grinding the stump below grade lets you mow, replant or build over the spot. Alabama 811 should mark buried lines first.

Getting there

Ardmore is a few minutes off I-65, which passes just west of town. That makes it an easy trip from Athens and Huntsville, and we schedule it alongside work in Elkmont and the rest of northern Limestone County.

Trees and Main Street businesses

Because Main Street is both a business district and the state line, trees near storefronts, signs and parking can be tricky. Roots lift sidewalks, limbs block signs and shade can be welcome or not. If you own a building on the Alabama side, we can help with clearance pruning that keeps trees healthy while keeping the storefront visible and the sidewalk safe.

For homes on the residential streets just off Main, most calls are about older trees over roofs, driveways and the service line to the house. The best fix is usually steady, light maintenance rather than a big cut every ten years.

Ardmore Questions

My neighbor's yard is in Tennessee. Can you trim the tree that hangs over it?

Yes, as long as both owners agree on what is being cut. We mark the scope on the estimate so there is no confusion about whose tree and which limbs.

Do you come up as far as Ardmore?

Yes. Ardmore is just off I-65, and we schedule it with Elkmont and other northern Limestone County jobs.

A limb is resting on my service line. What should I do?

Do not touch it. Call the electric provider on your bill, and once the line is safe we can remove the rest of the limb and prune the tree back.

How often should older trees in town be pruned?

For most mature shade trees, every three to five years is enough to remove deadwood and keep clearance over roofs and drives. Big, infrequent cuts stress trees more.
