A Town That Rebuilt Itself

New Hope is about 19 miles southeast of Huntsville and 19 miles northwest of Guntersville on US 431. Tree service in New Hope is mostly rural work: big trees on big lots, wooded coves behind houses and long driveways that need clearing. Pro Tree Service Huntsville covers the town and the surrounding countryside.

Cloud's Town, Vienna and New Hope

William Cloud founded the settlement in 1829 as Cloud's Town, in Cloud's Cove off Hobbs Island Road, a few miles from today's town. It was incorporated as Vienna in 1832. During the Civil War, Union cavalry seized the town in May 1864, and on December 15, 1864, Union forces burned Vienna over guerrilla skirmishes; only the post office and Masonic Lodge survived. Because another Alabama post office already used the name Vienna, the town became New Hope in 1883, after the New Hope Methodist Church. Today about 2,900 people live here, on roughly 8.7 square miles.

Cove country

The word cove comes up a lot in this part of Madison County. A cove is a valley tucked into the edge of the mountains, and many homes here sit in or near one. That landscape brings:

  • Wooded slopes behind houses, with trees that lean toward open yards
  • Creek bottoms where fast-growing trees drop limbs
  • Long, narrow access roads that limit what equipment can reach a tree
  • Older homesites with a few very large trees that were left when the land was cleared for farming

Planning a rural job

We start every New Hope estimate by talking through access. Can a bucket truck reach the tree, or does it need to be climbed? Is there room to fell it, or must it come down in pieces? Where does the wood go? Many owners here want to keep firewood, so we cut it to length and stack it where you want. Brush can be chipped and spread as mulch or hauled away.

After storms

Southeast Madison County gets the same spring and late-fall severe weather as the rest of the Tennessee Valley, and wooded lots mean more trees can come down at once. After a storm, the first job is clearing the driveway and getting trees off roofs, fences and outbuildings. The rest of the cleanup can be scheduled once access and safety are sorted.

Dead trees in the woods behind the house

Most rural New Hope homes have a stretch of woods on one or more sides. Dead trees inside those woods are usually harmless where they stand, but those within reach of the house, drive, shop or fence are another matter. We mark the ones that can hit something and leave the rest standing for wildlife if you like.

This kind of selective work costs much less than clearing, keeps the privacy and shade you moved out here for, and removes the trees most likely to cause damage.

New Hope Questions

Can you clear trees hanging over my long driveway?

Yes. We raise and cut back limbs so trucks, school buses and emergency vehicles can get through, and remove any dead trees that could fall across the drive.

Can I keep the wood for firewood?

Yes. Tell us what length you want and where to stack it. The estimate will list it so there is no confusion.

Do you work in Owens Cross Roads and Grant too?

Yes. We cover New Hope, Owens Cross Roads and the country toward Grant and Guntersville Lake.

Do I need to clear all the dead trees in my woods?

No. Dead trees deep in the woods are usually fine to leave. We focus on the ones that could fall on the house, drive or outbuildings.

Do you grind stumps on rural lots?

Yes. We grind stumps below grade so you can mow or replant, after buried lines are marked through Alabama 811. Grindings can be left to fill the hole or hauled away.
