A Planned Community Below the Mountains

Hampton Cove is a master-planned community in Huntsville's Big Cove area, and tree service in Hampton Cove reflects that: homes on lots carved from wooded foothills, many backing onto common areas, lakes, greenways or the golf course. Pro Tree Service Huntsville works throughout its neighborhoods.

How Hampton Cove came to be

Development began in 1992, when brothers John and Jimmy Hays and their nephew Jeff Enfinger assembled land on the far side of Monte Sano for a golf course and subdivision. The community now covers about 2,800 acres with roughly 2,000 homes in some 20 neighborhoods, 28 stocked lakes and about 20 miles of sidewalks and paths. It sits between Monte Sano and Green Mountain on the west and Keel Mountain on the east, next to the 538-acre Hays Nature Preserve and the Big Cove Creek Greenway. During the Civil War the area was called Horse Cove, because people hid their horses here from the Union Army.

City services apply

The city of Huntsville provides Hampton Cove's services, so for homes inside the city limits Huntsville's sanitation rules apply: tree limbs set out for collection can be no more than 5 feet long, and the city does not collect debris from a contractor's work. If your tree company is doing the job, the estimate should say whether they haul the wood.

Common tree issues here

Wooded lot edges. Many lots were cleared from forest, leaving tall, thin trees along the back line that are now exposed to wind. Some lean toward houses.

Near water. Homes around the lakes and along the creek greenway have trees in wetter soil, which grow fast and can uproot in saturated ground.

Common area trees. Trees on HOA common ground or the golf course belong to the association or the club. If one threatens your house, contact them first. We can trim overhanging limbs back to your line once everyone agrees.

Builder-planted yard trees. Trees planted in the 1990s and 2000s are now large and often need structural pruning or clearance from roofs.

HOA approval

Most Hampton Cove neighborhoods have covenants. Many require approval to remove trees, especially in front yards or along common areas. Check your HOA rules before scheduling. We can provide a written estimate that describes the work for your application.

Golf course and lake edges

Homes along the fairways and lakes have a few extra considerations. Golf balls can damage bark; lakeside soil stays wet and limits equipment; and trees along shared edges often need agreement from more than one party before work is done. We plan those jobs carefully and keep wood and equipment off turf and shorelines.

In mountain-edge neighborhoods, tall trees on the slopes above homes deserve a periodic look, especially after heavy rain.

Hampton Cove Questions

A tree on the common area behind my house is leaning toward it. Who handles that?

Contact your HOA first, since the tree belongs to the association. We can inspect it and give you a written description of what we see to share with them.

Does my HOA need to approve a tree removal?

Many Hampton Cove covenants require approval, especially for front-yard trees. Check your rules before scheduling.

Will the city pick up the wood from my tree job?

Not if a contractor did the work. Huntsville does not collect debris from a contractor's job, so make sure the estimate includes hauling.

Can you remove a tree near the lake without damaging the shoreline?

Yes. We lower the wood rather than felling it, use mats or light equipment on soft ground and keep debris out of the water.
